The winner will receive a prize of €50,000, and the chance to show his or her collection at Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week on January 29, when the winning name will be revealed. The winner will also develop selected pieces from his or her collection to be sold in selected H&M stores this autumn.

Information on all the finalists can be found at designaward2013.hm.com, where voting for this year’s People’s Prize will also open on January 16. The People’s Prize winner will win the chance of a month’s internship at Jonathan Saunders in London.
“I’m so excited by the finalists of this year’s H&M Design Award. The standard of entry was so high, with such creativity, energy and attitude. We started the H&M Design Award to help move fashion forward, and to celebrate and support graduates as they begin their careers. I can’t wait to see what all of our finalists will do in the future,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Head of Design.
THE FINALISTS
ALBA PRAT (Germany): 31-year-old Alba from Barcelona has lived in Berlin for seven years, where she studied at the Universität der Künste. Her collection “syn chron” uses the visualisation of sound phenomena, basing her prints on two different visualised recordings of her own heartbeat.
DANIELA SALAZAR RODRIGUEZ (France): Originally from Venezuela, 27-year-old Daniela Salazar Rodriguez has studied in Paris since 2007. Her collection, designed at L’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, mixes architectural modernity with Japanese and Korean historical costume.
ELEONORA BRUNO (Italy): Eleonora Bruno, who studied at Polimoda in her native Florence, is a 25-year-old who has expanded her work beyond hats to include full looks. Her collection, “Le Vie De Madame Roy”, creates imagined outfits for a woman in Paris.
ERIK LITZÉN (Sweden): Stockholm native 26-year-old Erik Litzén, who studied at the city’s Beckmans College of Design, is interested in plays with gender. His collection, “P-Androgeny”, uses draping and volume to create tailoring that goes beyond the normal bounds of menswear.
MAIA BERGMAN (United Kingdom): Maia Bergman, a 24-year-old born in Buenos Aires but now based in London, studied for her BA at Central Saint Martins. For her collection, she took simple, wearable silhouettes, and created contrast by decorating them with intricate embellishment.
MARK KENLY DOMINO TAN (Denmark): Mark Tan, a 26-year-old from Ry studied at DSKD in Kolding. His collection looks at the relationship between the body and wood, foam and plaster. Mark first made films, then translated these visual movements, shapes and colours into his high-tech collection.
MINJU KIM (Belgium): 26-year-old Minju Kim is originally from South Korea, and is now in her master’s degree year at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Minju’s collection is inspired by Manga, based on sketches of her friends transformed into fantastical creatures.
THOM BARENDS (Holland): Thom Barends is a 23-year-old from Amsterdam, who studied at ArtEz in Arnhem. His collection looks at present day society, and imagines a woman who ends up on the streets with nothing but her mother’s ‘80s clothing.

David Beckham celebrates the launch of David Beckham Bodywear for H&M in London

Last night in London, David Beckham celebrated the global launch of David Beckham Bodywear for H&M with an in-store launch, followed by a cocktail party at a pop-up gentleman’s club created especially for the occasion. At the in-store event at H&M on Regent Street, David showed the new television commercial, met with fans and signed the collection. Later, celebrities such as Bianca Jagger, Emma Bunton and Jessica Ennis joined David to toast his bodywear range. This debut collection is the first in a long-term partnership between David Beckham and H&M, and is available from today in 1,800 H&M stores worldwide, as well as online.
“I am very proud to launch my Bodywear collection for H&M in London. It was amazing to see the product at the in-store launch after so many months of development and meet with fans. I loved the pop-up gentleman’s club, which felt both traditional and brand new. It’s the same mix I hope men will find in the Bodywear collection. It was an amazing evening to launch my new collection.” David Beckham.

“The debut of David Beckham Bodywear is a very special moment for us at H&M. It marks the beginning of a new kind of long-term partnership for H&M, one based on quality and excellent design to H&M prices. I am very excited to see how our customers will receive the David Beckham Bodywear collection.”   Karl-Johan Persson, CEO of H&M.

At the cocktail party, guests were treated to a unique David Beckham for H&M experience, with decor, food and drink designed to reflect not only classic gentlemen’s clubs but also David’s British roots. Live music was provided by the James Pearson Trio, direct from the infamous Ronnie Scotts club, followed by a DJ set by ”Mani” from The Stone Roses and DJ the Queens of Noize.

The event marks the debut of David Beckham Bodywear for H&M, a new collection which focuses on fit, function comfort and design. Designed by David’s in-house team and sold exclusively at H&M in around 40 countries worldwide, this first collection presents the nine key products which will go on to form the core of the range. The collection will develop seasonally with new styles, new fabrics and new patterns.

“Lots of people have worked with H&M, so why not David Beckham? I think it’s a really good idea. It means that now everybody can have a bit of him.” Suzy Menkes, International Herald Tribune.

H&M teams up with David Beckham

David Beckham will together with H&M make his Bodywear range for men available to millions of fans globally through a long-term partnership.
The long-term alliance will allow David Beckham to produce and exclusively sell his eagerly awaited new DAVID BECKHAM bodywear line in around 1800 H&M stores in around 40 countries worldwide. It marks the beginning of a significant relationship between H&M and David Beckham, with new Bodywear products being launched seasonally. The initial range will be launched to coincide with Valentine’s Day 2012 from February 2nd.
“Over the past year, I’ve been developing my Bodywear range with my team and I’m extremely positive about what we have designed and produced,” said David Beckham. “The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward, I’m excited and looking forward to showcasing the range to H&M customers from February.”
“David Beckham is a true icon both of sport and style. It is incredibly exciting for H&M to be entering into a long-term partnership with him for his DAVID BECKHAM Bodywear line. It is the start of an amazing adventure for us at H&M. Valentine’s Day in 2012 is going to be a very exciting time indeed”, says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Head of Design.
Recognised in every corner of the world, David Beckham has consistently redefined the world he lives in. Considered by many to be one of the most marketable individuals in the world, Beckham and his business partner Simon Fuller in 2011 announced the launch of a new Brand Identity and DAVID BECKHAM branded product line, to include bodywear.
“This partnership with H&M is an important step in the evolution of David’s journey from sporting hero to entrepreneur and icon”, said Simon Fuller, David Beckham’s long time business partner. “H&M’s enthusiasm and support for this venture, combined with their scale and reach, will continue to enhance the power of David’s image around the world.’
